5K Note:
Front - Gully Ali Beg and its 800m waterfall. The 10km gully passes between Mount Kork and Mount Nwathnin, some 60km away from Shaqlawa.
Back - The second century desert fortress of Al-Ukhether, Hejira.
10K Note:
Front - Abu Ali Hasan Ibn al-Haitham (known as Alhazen to medieval scholars in the West), born Basrah in 965 CE. His most important work - although he wrote some 200 books - is held to be a seven volume series on optics Kitab al-Manazir, in which he gives the first correct explanation of vision, showing that light is reflected from an object into the eye. He is said to have ‘invented’ the camera obscura. Also, an eminent physicist and mathematician he developed analytical geometry by establishing linkage between algebra and geometry. Alhazen’s work was translated into Latin, and greatly influenced European scientific thought.
Back - Hadba Minaret, at the Great Nurid Mosque, Mosul, built 1172 CE by Nurridin Zangi, the then Turkish ruler. The 59m-high minaret leans 8 feet off the perpendicular. That is how it earned its Arabic name Al-Hadba (‘the humped’).
25K Note:
Front - Kurdish farmer holding sheaf of wheat. Tractor in background.
Back - King Hammurabi, best known for writing the first code of law in human history. Hammurabi founded the First Dynasty of Babylon in 1700 BCE- the beginning of a prosperous era for the region.
50K Note:
Front - traditional symbols to reflect Iraq’s diverse heritage including a water wheel on the Euphrates river, palm trees, flying birds and the Gali Ali Beg waterfall in Kurdistan.
Back - Fisherman poles a canoe through a marsh surrounded by indigenous animals with the Great Mosque of Samarra in the background.
Q: Why do you ask for a copy of a driver's license or other information on certain orders?
A: As a registered MSB (Money Services Bureau) we are given guidelines from the US Treasury Department regarding transactions where secured funds are involved (cashier's checks or money orders). The treasury regards these transactions as cash transactions. These rules were set up to identify people who might be laundering money. It is known as the "know your customer" rule outlined under the Patriot Act Compliance guidelines. The information that we collect is not shared with anyone, but must be available in the event that we are audited. We use the guidelines given to us to determine when a driver's license is required. We are not at liberty to discuss what those guidelines are. Any further questions should be forwarded to the main office for further explanation. Please note that the fax of the driver's license must be legible before we will ship the order. In an effort to save time we suggest the customer enlarge the license image before faxing, or use our preferred method of scanning and e-mailing to info@safedinar.com.
Q: Why should I set up an account?
A: By creating an account, you will have the following advantages:
  • Access for review of your order history
  • Eligibility for current promotions and reward programs
  • Faster checkout
  • Order view and tracking tools
  • Store multiple shipping addresses
You are not required to set up an account in order to buy currency from us; however, if you order again, you will have to reenter all of your information. You may also be asked to supply your verification information again.

A: You will need the email address used on your last order. Submit that email address here, and a temporary password will be issued to you. Once you sign into your account, you will be able to view and print your order history, and update your personal/contact information.
Q: I have never ordered with an e-mail address. Do I have an account?
A: No, if you have never provided us with an email address, you would not have an account. If you now have an email address you would like to use, a new account can be set up for you.
Q: I forgot my password. How do I get a new one?

This is a common question that we hear from customers and others interested in exchanging US Dollars for the Dinar, but it is not possible for us to know or truly predict a change in the exchange rate. Q: Can I buy dinar with a credit card?
A: We do not currently accept credit cards as payment. We have researched the possibility of accepting credit cards; however, most credit card companies (including Visa, Master Card, and American Express) will not authorize a transaction for a currency exchange as a traditional purchase. Most credit card companies would categorize that transaction as a cash advance, which can be an extra fee the for the credit card holder. Additionally, there would be an a transaction fee from the credit card company that we would need to pass along to our customers. We will periodically research the possibility of accepting cards, and if possible in the future, we may offer that option. Q: Can I buy dinar with e-check?
A: We do not currently accept e-check as payment. We have researched the possibility of accepting e-check; however, it would require a significant delay in the processing of the exchange because of the hold time with the financial institution. This may interfere with our service being defined as a currency exchange. We will periodically research the possibility of e-checks, and if possible in the future, we may offer that option. We have found that our customers are very satisfied with our payment options (Collect on Delivery and Pay by Mail). You receive your order within 1 business day of providing proof of payment. You choose which one works best for you and there are no additional transaction fees.
Q: What is layaway and can I purchase currency on layaway?
A: We do not (and have never) offered a Layaway program for currency sales. Q: How do you calculate the final payout for the Iraqi Dinar, which is quoted in a range?

When you sell back Iraqi Dinar, you’ll notice that your quoted payment amount is presented in a range. We pay more for uncirculated notes, so depending on the quality of your currency, your final payment amount will fall somewhere in this range (assuming your send the exact denominations and count that you specified in your redemption request).

The payment amount is determined precisely based on the number of uncirculated and circulated notes we receive. Here are a couple examples that demonstrate how the calculation is performed. For simplicity, let’s assume you’re selling 100 x 10,000 notes that have a circulated exchange rate of $600 / M and an uncirculated exchange rate of $700 / M. In our example, you’re selling 1,000,000 (or 1M) in foreign currency and the range presented is $600 - $700 before shipping.

  • If we receive 100 uncirculated notes, you’d be paid $700 before shipping, or 1M at $700 / M.
  • If we receive 100 circulated notes, you’d be paid $600 before shipping, or 1M at $600 / M.
  • If we receive 50 uncirculated notes and 50 circulated notes, you’d be paid $650 before shipping, or 0.5M at $700 / M ($350) plus 0.5M at $600 / M ($300).

To see the difference between uncirculated and circulated notes, please see our note quality page .

Return Authorization (RA)

Q: What is an RA number?
A: RA stands for Return Authorization. It is a procedure to ensure an orderly and controlled process to return and compensate you for the currency that you are redeeming.
Q: How long do I have to use my RA?
A: We must receive your currency within 5 business days of the RA's origination date.
Q: What happens if I send in my notes using an expired RA?
A: Any package without a current, valid RA will be refused or the package will be held until payment arrangements can be made to have the package returned to you.
Q: What happens if I create an RA but don't use it?
A: If you create an RA but let it expire you will have to wait thirty days before another RA will be granted.
Q: What if I send a package without an RA?
A: Any package without a current, valid RA will be refused or the package will be held until payment arrangements can be made to have the package returned to you.

Q: Why did the exchange rate change?

The exchange rates that determine how much we charge (if you're buying) and pay (if you're selling) for foreign currency in USD is updated automatically throughout the day based on factors including supply, demand, current market rates and inventory levels, etc.

Buying Currency

As the exchange rate increases, the USD price for currency will also increase. Conversely, if the exchange rate decreases, the USD price will also decrease. When you place your order, the quoted rate is locked in until 5pm ET of the next business day.

The exchange rate and order totals quoted will be locked at the time you place your redemption if your RA (return authorization) is approved. Circulated v Uncirculated (for Iraqi Dinar Only)

Q: What is the difference between circulated and uncirculated notes?
A: Uncirculated notes are in near mint condition, they are perfectly clean, the ink is bright and the notes lay perfectly flat. Uncirculated notes have no bends, creases or folds. When stacked, the edges of uncirculated notes meet perfectly in such a way that the appearance is that of a single, solid, absolutely clean edge. View examples of uncirculated notes.

Circulated notes sound like what they are, they have been handled and have imperfections that keep them from being considered uncirculated. See pictures of circulated notes.
Q: Why do you charge more for uncirculated notes than you do for circulated?
A: We have to pay a premium to acquire uncirculated notes when we purchase them.
Q: Am I guaranteed to receive the most recently minted notes if I buy uncirculated notes?
A: No. We do not segregate notes by the year they were issued.
Q: What are reasons for buying Uncirculated notes over circulated notes?
A: The only reason that you should consider paying more for uncirculated quality notes is that you want the note quality to be in perfect condition - gift giving, framing or just personal preference are a few reasons. There is no difference in the intrinsic value between a circulated note and an uncirculated note.
Q: Are uncirculated notes worth more than circulated notes?
A: No. Your circulated note has the exact same buying power and intrinsic value at an Iraqi bank, car dealership or fast food restaurant as a brand new, mint condition banknote does. It is only in this US market where there has been a demand for uncirculated notes that mint condition notes may command a higher rate.
Q: Should I buy uncirculated notes and expect that I will be paid more for them (then circulated notes) when I go to sell them?
A: No. Again, there is no difference in the intrinsic value between a circulated note and an uncirculated note. You will find that most banks that exchange the IQD do not pay different rates depending on condition. As an example, at the time of this writing a major US bank that buys and sells IQD has an offer rate of $641.70/million with no separate distinction for the quality. Dealers like SafeDinar.com will continue to pay a premium for uncirculated notes so long as a market for them exists.
Q: What types of things can affect the condition of a banknote?
A: Improper storage, excessive handling/counting, folding, paper clips, rubber bands, even temperature, light and humidity can affect a banknote’s condition in a negative way.
Q: Can I buy all types of currency in either circulated or uncirculated grade or is it just limited to the Dinar?
A: Of the more than 70 currencies that we exchange, the Iraqi Dinar is the only currency that we acquire and segregate notes by their quality.
Q: I have IQD banknotes that I would like to sell back but I am concerned that I will not be paid the uncirculated quality rate. What advice would you offer?
A: We believe that our systems and processes for receiving and grading banknotes is second to none. We use a professional armored services company to receive and grade the banknotes. The staff that reviews and receives the banknotes have years of experience in handling and grading notes. Having said that we know that not everyone is an expert. We suggest the following:
  • Try selling a small quantity of the notes back to see how the process goes and that the grading processes meets your expectations.
  • While we never like to lose a potential customer, banknotes are bearer instruments meaning you should be able sell them wherever IQD is exchanged. It is possible that another dealer may not have the same grading standards as SafeDinar.com. We would caution you to make certain that you are dealing with a reputable dealer before you send them your currency.
Q: Can I change my mind after my notes have been received and graded?
A: No. The transaction is final once your notes have been received at our facility.
Q: What process do you use for grading the notes that are sold back to SafeDinar.com?
  • The notes are received and graded by trained, experienced representatives of the armored company that we contract with.
  • Every package is opened and every note is received under security cameras.
  • The receiving representative reviews each note, characterizing it as circulated or uncirculated.
  • The decision of the representatives who receive the notes is final.
Q: How can I keep track of the rates that you pay for circulated v uncirculated IQD?
A: Our live, updated rates are posted on the homepage of our website. We also offer a proprietary, customizable (and free) alert tool that will send you an email when the rate crosses a particular threshold that you set. Or you can set it to send you an email every time the rate changes. Set up an exchange rate alert.
Q: Why does the price of uncirculated notes go up and down even when the official rate or sometimes even the circulated rate, has not changed?
A: Our rates are determined by an algorithm that takes in a number of different factors including but not limited to: supply, demand, the official rate, the cost to resupply, overhead and profit. Many of these elements change daily, independent of the official rate.
